Two clocks running at once: customs and Thai FDA
Import clearance and Thai FDA product licensing are two separate approvals granted by two separate agencies, and one never substitutes for the other. A shipment can clear customs cleanly and still sit undeliverable because the underlying Thai FDA import license, or product-level registration, is not yet in place. DeeMED starts the Thai FDA workstream, whether that's a medical device registration, a pharmaceutical import license, or a biologics-specific approval, in parallel with booking and documentation, not after the shipment has already left origin, so the two clocks finish together instead of one stalling the other.
Import documentation and customs clearance

Neither mechanism pauses the Thai FDA clock, so we size the customs storage window against the realistic FDA timeline before recommending either route.
Thai Customs closed a longstanding exemption effective January 1, 2026 (Customs Department Announcement No. 219/2568): imported goods valued at 1,500 THB or below used to clear duty and VAT-free, and that threshold is now gone entirely, with every import subject to 7% VAT and applicable duty from the first baht of declared value. Most regulated healthcare shipments were already well above that old threshold and duty/VAT-liable regardless, so this change doesn't reshape the core import calculation for a typical device or pharmaceutical consignment. Where it does matter is the smaller, easy-to-overlook shipments that used to slip through duty-free: spare parts, calibration accessories, validation samples, and small-value diagnostic components. Every one of those now carries the same 7% VAT and applicable HS-code duty as a full commercial shipment, with no minimum value below which it's ignored.
Import licensing coordination across product categories
Medical devices, pharmaceuticals, and biologics each carry their own Thai FDA import pathway, fee schedule, and review timeline, and a single shipment carrying more than one category needs each pathway confirmed independently rather than assumed to move on the same clock.
